Commitment to Open Access
The International Journal of Clinical Virology (IJCV) is a fully open-access, peer-reviewed scientific journal that provides unrestricted access to its published content for readers worldwide. IJCV firmly believes that knowledge dissemination should be free and accessible to all without barriers of cost, institutional subscription, or geographic limitation.
This policy reflects the journal’s commitment to the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) Best Practices, and international standards promoted by OASPA and COPE.
Definition of Open Access
Open Access (OA) means immediate, free, and permanent online access to research outputs without any financial, legal, or technical barriers. All published materials in IJCV are available for reading, downloading, sharing, and redistribution under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
“Open access accelerates global research communication and promotes equality in scientific discovery.”
Licensing Terms
All IJCV publications are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (CC BY 4.0). This license allows users to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use, provided the original author and source are properly credited.
| Permission | Description |
|---|---|
| Sharing | Readers can freely copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format. |
| Adaptation | Researchers can remix, transform, and build upon the work for any purpose. |
| Attribution | Credit must be given to the original author(s) and source. |
| No Additional Restrictions | Users cannot apply legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from using the material under the same license. |
Author Rights and Retention
Authors publishing in IJCV retain full copyright of their work. By submitting to IJCV, authors grant the publisher a non-exclusive right to distribute and archive their articles while allowing others to reuse and share the work under the same open license.
- Authors can deposit their final published versions (PDF) in institutional repositories or personal websites without restriction.
- Authors are encouraged to share preprints or postprints in compliance with SHERPA/ROMEO guidelines.
- Reuse of content requires proper citation of the original publication in IJCV.
Benefits of Open Access
IJCV’s open-access model benefits authors, readers, and the global scientific community by promoting transparency, visibility, and accessibility of research findings:
- Wider Audience Reach: Articles are freely available to scientists, clinicians, students, and policymakers worldwide.
- Increased Citation Impact: Open-access articles receive higher visibility and citation rates.
- Equitable Knowledge Distribution: Supports researchers from developing regions by eliminating paywall barriers.
- Immediate Availability: Articles are published online promptly after acceptance and DOI assignment.
- Reuse Flexibility: Content can be adapted for education, research, and policy applications with attribution.
Compliance with Funding Agencies
Many research funding agencies mandate open-access dissemination of funded outputs. IJCV’s publishing model fulfills these mandates by ensuring that all articles are freely available under an open license immediately upon publication. The journal is fully compliant with:
- Plan S and other Coalition S funding requirements.
- NIH Public Access Policy and equivalent global initiatives.
- European Commission Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe open-access mandates.
Authors may deposit copies of their accepted or published manuscripts in repositories designated by their funders without seeking additional permissions.
Archiving and Accessibility
IJCV ensures long-term accessibility through permanent archiving in trusted digital preservation systems such as Portico and LOCKSS. The journal’s integration with Crossref guarantees DOI assignment and metadata registration for every published article, enabling stable citation and retrieval.
All articles are also indexed by Google Scholar, Index Copernicus, ResearchBib, and PKP OAI harvesters, ensuring discoverability across multiple scholarly platforms.
Open Data and Transparency
In line with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles, authors are encouraged to make underlying data and materials available wherever possible. Open data enhances transparency, reproducibility, and trust in published findings.
- Authors may deposit data in open repositories such as Zenodo, Dryad, or Figshare.
- Datasets should be properly cited in the references with digital object identifiers (DOIs).
- When data cannot be publicly shared, authors should provide a reasonable justification in their manuscript.
Reuse and Attribution Guidelines
Users of IJCV content must properly acknowledge the original publication and authorship. A recommended citation format is provided with each article. When reproducing or adapting content, include the full citation and license statement:
Example Attribution:
“This article is distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited.”
Publication Costs and Waivers
To support sustainability of the open-access model, IJCV charges Article Processing Charges (APCs) to cover editorial, peer-review, and archiving costs. However, fee waivers or reductions are available for authors from low- and middle-income countries and for exceptional cases based on the discretion of the Editorial Board.
Details on APCs and waiver eligibility are available under the Waiver Policy and Article Processing Charges sections.
Ethical Standards and Open Access
Open access does not compromise quality or ethics. IJCV enforces strict editorial and peer-review procedures consistent with COPE and ICMJE guidelines. Ethical oversight ensures that every open-access article maintains scientific credibility, originality, and reliability.
Reader Rights
- Readers can access and download articles without login or subscription.
- No registration or fee is required to access full-text PDFs or HTML versions.
- Readers may share links or content via institutional platforms and teaching materials under the CC BY 4.0 license.
